Q&A

…an insight into the design approach and background .

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE?

This is a question I’m asked the most. Having worked on interior design projects internationally in the luxury property development sector, hospitality industry and of course, private residential homes, it’s important to be versatile. Personally, I’m drawn to many cultures, styles and time periods. Perhaps you may see this as a ‘non’ answer. However, as a designer, I find it is key to understand the varying lifestyles and preferred aesthetics of my clients before interpreting ideas into tailored spaces. Why force a singular style into every project, if you have the opportunity to experiment with many more?

WHY DESIGN?

I’ve always liked to create the tangible, focusing on a balance between aesthetics and the ergonomics of design. My ethos in interior design is to create layered moments through design. I believe each carefully considered detail, even if non-visible, like the flow of a room, translates into many little moments, contributing to the overall mood of any given space. It is my mission to weave these in, no matter how subtle; to create warmth, life and texture in all of our projects. By doing so, the process of brainstorming, editing and refining can be one that is grueling. However, guiding a project from the early conceptual stages and seeing it through to the completed product is always worth it in the end!

WHAT’S NEXT?

It’s been an adventurous journey so far! From, completing an Interior Design BDes Hons degree at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design with First Class Honours and subsequently, at Politenico di Milano, I found my calling working on high-end residential design in London soon after. It was a great stepping stone to work on a range of private homes like villa sanctuaries in the Middle East or townhouses on Eaton Square. From there, I had my eyes set on up-routing to New York City where design is truly run on full-speed.

Over the course of my design career, I have worked with like-minded designers at incredible design studios, including The Studio Harrods and Katharine Pooley in London, as well as, Champalimaud Design in New York. While in New York, my experience expanded to commercially driven projects, including but not limited to five-star hotels in Cape Town and Boston, condominium developments in New York City and gated residential developments in Hong Kong.

Designing interior spaces, whether it involves interior architecture, space planning, furniture design or interior styling with art and accessories, is truly a passion of mine. In time, I imagine I’d take on more cross-disciplinary collaborative projects that are a true reflection of my identity.
